Sports Injury

We offer sports-related injury recovery services in order to meet our patients' needs.  We aim to achieve the quickest, yet safest, possible recovery time for each patient. We are highly committed to offering customized sports rehabilitation care to the Old Town area and it's surrounding communities.

Healing from surgery is just as important as the surgery itself.  Whether it's a joint replacement or repair, you will have therapy designed to support your post-op plan with recovery as the goal. Therapy focused goals are attainable and created using a team approach:  physician, therapist, and you.  This is all achieved while taking into consideration your comfort levels during and after therapy sessions for optimum healing.

Reiki Treatment

Through this holistic approach to physical therapy, we view each patient as a whole rather than a single symptom to be treated.  Access Therapy is a non-invasive, gentle, manual therapy designed to pinpoint areas of tension in the body that may inhibit recovery from injury or surgery.  By addressing the body as a whole, healing, pain relief & pain management help the patient on the road to recovery.

We also offer occupational therapy services.  Our occupational therapist, Erin, is skilled in all aspects of OT. Occupational therapy is about understanding the importance of an activity to an individual, being able to analyze the physical, mental and social components of the activity and then adapting the activity, the environment and/or the person to enable them to resume the activity.

Hand Massage

Acupuncture Massage Therapy Treatment In

Dry Needling is a treatment that involves a very thin needle being pushed through the skin in order to stimulate a trigger point.  This releases tight muscle bands that are associated with that trigger point, or hard "knots" within that muscle that can cause pain over a large area.  Left untreated, these knots can make it difficult to perform everyday tasks.

Blood flow restriction (BFR) is a technique that uses specialized cuffs to control the blood flow in targeted areas of the body during therapy. The cuff is either placed on the upper arm or upper leg, depending on the area of treatment. When the patient exercises with reduced blood flow, the muscles work with a lower oxygen supply. This, in turn, allows the body think it is working harder than it is, and there will be an increase in hormone production.  This increase has been proven to rebuild muscle and repair damaged tissues.

Aquatic therapy, or pool therapy, consists of an exercise program that is performed in the water. It is a beneficial form of therapy that is useful for a variety of medical conditions. Aquatic therapy uses the physical properties of water to assist in patient healing and exercise performance.

What Patients Are Saying

"I would recommend Randy Cyr as a highly competent and compassionate physical therapist. I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis by a neurosurgeon who recommended physical therapy as treatment. Randy was able to schedule therapy sessions at my home at a time convenient for both of us. During these sessions all of my questions were answered with patience and clarity, and Randy communicated with my doctor about the sessions. As a result of the physical therapy and exercises recommended by Randy, my condition improved significantly."

My mom was having terrible pain in her leg for months, and it wasn’t being controlled well with medicine. Her physician recommended physical therapy, so we contacted Randy and he worked with her at her home. He’s done wonders!
Aside from the actual physical therapy and exercise part of her treatment, Randy pointed out to her, many things that she did during the course of the day that aggravated her pain- from her unstable walking gait, to how she sat down in her recliner, to her sleeping position.
Her doubts about how successful physical therapy would be, were quickly assuaged. His easy manner and the quick results won her over. She’s now pain-free!
Thanks Randy!!

I recently started running again and began having problems with shin splints. After talking with Randy and assessing my situation I was told I have flat feet and one leg a little longer than the other. Arch supports and a little lift in one shoe and the shin splints disappeared. Soon after they healed I began having issues with my left knee. Randy soon got me back on track with exercises and ultrasound therapy. Today I am running pain free because of him He is very knowledgeable and really listened to what I had to say. My son also has been having issues with this for the past few years. He is now a senior in high school. He has been seen by two other physical therapists but not much improvement long term. Randy recommended arch supports a lift in one shoe along with exercises, stretches and ultrasound therapy. My son can now play ball, run and enjoy doing the things he has been missing. I highly recommend him.

"I have been a neighbor and friend of Physical Therapist Randy Cyr for nearly two decades. My two favorite activities are golf and disc golf, and at 51 years old I work hard to keep from getting injured, but this summer I experienced lower back discomfort and tightness. I scheduled an appointment with Randy, and he was able to identify the source of the problem and develop a treatment plan that helped my body realign and heal. Since the initial treatments I have been able to get back to my previous level of activity, and I continue to see him periodically for maintenance. It is hard to describe just how good Randy is at his chosen profession, but suffice it to say that he has a gift and has worked hard to develop it to a point that allows him to be a truly effective healer. His calm demeanor, combined with his experience and skill, allows him to customize his approach in a way that yields results. I recommend him highly and would encourage anyone in need of physical therapy to schedule an appointment at his new practice, FIT Physical Therapy, in downtown Old Town."

Since graduating from Quinnipiac University over 20 years ago, I have been practicing physical therapy in multiple therapeutic settings. I have worked, and managed outpatient, inpatient, acute care, home health, skilled nursing, and long term care facilities.  During this time, my desire and direction of care has been progressively magnified to focus on methods of achieving best body function impacting both the physical and mental body.

I am trained with traditional physical therapy AND AccessTherapy.  AccessTherapy is a non-invasive manual therapy that is gentle and effective. In certain cases, I meld both methods to deliver a therapy that promotes health, healing, and energy.  My team of therapists: Julie, Ashley, Kim, Jean, Lauren, Scott, Stephen, and Emily are also deeply experienced and ready to work with all patients to meet their therapy goals.

At "FIT" Physical Therapy we promote the message of "Function, Integrate, Transform," for all patients to meet their therapy goals.
